Incident Remote Automatic Weather Stations (NFES #5869 IRAWS kit) are autonomous, portable weather stations that provide near real time observational data. IRAWS are intended for use on or near the fireline, and can be rapidly relocated as desired by Fire Behavior Analysts (FBAs) or Incident Meteorologists (IMETs) to provide timely weather data. 3.5 MesoWest Data Some types of data in the MesoWest network (Horel et al. 2002) were used, generally those from RAWS (Remote Automated Weather Stations) and SNOTEL (Snowpack Telemetry) sites. These data were judged to be of a high enough quality we could use them in development. MesoWest sites number about 1175.
