RPMs too high when cruising in city or hwy, manual shifting would easily lower by 500rpms or more. Your last post raised a few red flags though. 1. There's a 1000 mile break in period required before towing. You really should not have towed at 500 miles. 2. Towing anything over 1000 lbs requires the use of trailer brakes. There are several videos of folks with late model Outbacks that demonstrate how to put the brake in service mode, so the rear pads can be changed.
